"The Leap: Improv Level 1" introduces the philosophy of improvisation that Revelry theater promotes. You are already a powerful creator, so take the leap into fearlessly unleashing your full potential - and have a lot of fun in the process! We will cover the importance of making and keeping strong choices, scenic inspiration and instigation, long form vs short form, and... of course, the basics of 'yes, and'. Whether you are new to improv as a skill, or a seasoned performer, this class opens up the opportunities to build relationships, feel supported, and feel the freedom of choice to go anywhere you want. All you have to do is take the leap!

Prerequisites: None... just do it!
Jon van Luling is an improviser, sketch writer/performer, theatrical producer, and actor who performs around the Northeast. Jon spent nearly 10 years in Chicago studying and performing with The Annoyance Theater, iO Chicago, and The Second City before moving back to Vermont in 2012. Because where else would you hunker down for the Mayan Apocalypse but a cabin in the Green Mountains. Upon moving to Vermont, Jon taught improv at the Vermont Comedy Club and was on the house improv team Napoleon.
You can see Jon performing with the independent team “Gross & Fancy” in various places around the Burlington Area. He also stars in the live play, D&D podcast “Improvised Weapons” with other local improvisers and comedians which has live shows at conventions around the region. He also occasionally hosts the local burlesque variety show, Green Mountain Cabaret, which he co-founded.
I’ve been improvising for about 20 years and really wanted to reignite that creative spark, work on character development, and look at improvisation from a different viewpoint. Jon Van Luling’s class didn’t disappoint.
Jon integrates different backgrounds and performance experiences in class, creating a fun, challenging and supportive environment. He generously shares his knowledge and passionate love of the art form with students. I highly recommend taking a class with Jon. - Heather Caldera
