Introduction to Sketch Writing w/Jeremy Rayburn

Class Description

Learn the basics of writing comedic sketches with a focus on finding the ‘game’ of each sketch. Practice writing sketches in different formats - including character, commercial parodies, and topical sketches - and for specific TV shows. Learn how to generate ideas through writing, improvization, and other collaborative exercises. Students will be expected to write sketches outside of class.

  • For ages 18+

Dates and Times

8 weeks for 2 hours each. 6-8pm. Tuesdays Oct 23 - Dec 11. Class show Friday Dec 14 6:30pm.

About the instructor:

Jeremy Rayburn is a comedy writer and standup comedian. He studied sketch comedy writing and improvisation at the Upright Citizen Brigade Theater in New York and was a founding member of two independent sketch groups with whom he performed at the Chicago Sketchfest, New York Sketchfest, and the Orlando Fringe Festival. In Vermont, he wrote and directed The Inner Monologue Sketch Show for Off Center’s Spring Open Artist Showcase. He also performs standup comedy and contributes to the satirical sketch podcast, The Final Edition, presented by The National Lampoon.
